My name is Nikki Salazar. When thinking of what to write for this introduction my mind was lost on where to begin, so I will start by giving you a brief story about me. I worked in corporate America for the past 10 years managing for one of the largest brands in the nation for much of that time. My job was needed somewhere other than where I had presently called home, which is what brought me to Alamogordo, New Mexico in 2007. Never wanting to settle down in a small town, I found myself in the smallest one I have lived in so far. High stress and constant changes in the corporate world drove me to visit my massage therapist up to three times a week at times, but definitely on a regular basis. Massage was the only relief that my mind and body would respond to for stress and pain. Aside from stress and pain my body experienced from my demanding job, I sought pain relief for a disk I had shattered in my lumbar 18 years ago which has now caused severe arthritis of my spine. In addition, the last few years I have had complications with one of my kidneys that has recently brought high amounts of pain into my everyday life. I currently do not take any medication for pain, nor do i suffer from any pain, because I manage it with massage therapy on a regular basis.
Massage therapy has inspired me, both mentally and physically, to live the highest quality of life I knew possible. This inspiration was motivating that in my free time from my full time job I attended night and weekend classes in Las Cruces, New Mexico at Mesilla Valley Institute of Therapeutic Arts. I graduated in June of 2009 with a certification in Massage Therapy. That same month, I left a great paying corporate position and opened a practice alone which is now know as Shimmer Spa in Alamogordo, NM. My vision was to work alone and help one client at a time to feel the relief in life's stress and pain, the way I have through massage for many years. Never did I dream that two years later I would have grown my solo practice into two locations, double the size of one location, and gone from solo show to a family of ten coworkers at Shimmer Spa.
We run our spa 7 days a week, all day long, and cater to the entire community of Alamogordo, Holloman AFB, Roswell, and the surrounding areas. I never imagined that what once was just a thought in my mind during another draining conference call (courtesy of my previous full time job), would grow into a full time practice which would allow me to share everyday with some of the most amazing Massage Therapists and Skin Care Specialist in the business. It has truly been pleasure to work with such inspiring and devoted individuals.
